Things to do in Buffalo

Buffalo is characterized by its remarkably friendly citizens, proximity to Niagara Falls, and long, snowy winters. While there’s no denying that the cold winters require a certain degree of willpower, the city manages to stay active with a busy events schedule and vibrant cultural scene. Buffalo originally boomed in the early 1900s when it tapped into the power from Niagara Falls and kick started its industrial revolution. Overtime, many of these historic buildings were left abandoned or rundown. However, the past several years have seen a wave of revitalization in Buffalo, including restoration of historic landmarks designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and HH Richardson. Among these architectural marvels, you’ll also find large green spaces, a buzzing culinary scene, and a myriad of activities. After business class flights to Buffalo, don’t miss out on the following top attractions.

Darwin D. Martin House

This architectural masterpiece is considered one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s best prairie houses, as well as one of the best designs from the first half of his career. Built between 1903 and 1905, it includes six interconnected buildings that have since been listed as National Historic Landmarks. There are several different types of guided tours you can book, including optional visits to the art-glass filled Bursar’s Office or second floor Master Bedroom. Or, if you prefer, you can book a private tour with up to six guests.

Canalside

Another recently revitalized area of Buffalo, Canalside is now host to a large green space, walking trail, and outdoor skating rink in the winter months. On one side, you’ll find Harborcenter, a hub for shops and restaurants. The KeyBank Center hockey arena is also just minutes away walking. Canalside boasts a packed event schedule, especially during the summer, ranging from live music to seasonal markets. The area is a popular destination among locals for its Adirondack chairs and benches with views of the canal.

Delaware Park and the Buffalo Zoo

Delaware Park is one of Buffalo’s most impressive green spaces. It offers 350 acres of tree-lined walking paths, tennis courts, golf courses, and plenty of space for relaxing on the grass. More so, it’s home to the Buffalo Zoo, an impressive collection of more than 1,000 animals. You’ll find species from across the globe, including gorillas, rhinoceros, polar bears, and tigers. Delaware Park was named one of the Great Places in America by the American Planning Association in 2014, as well as one of the Top 10 Parks in the World by The Guardian in 2015.
